This couple’s Northern California home is an expression of what matters most to them: family, entertaining, and spirituality. Our contribution to this design-build project included furnishings, finishes, lighting, and porch areas.
The building’s original circular footprint reflects sacred mandala geometry and creates rooms of irregular dimensions. The center meditation cave employs cedar for simplicity, warmth, and grounding. An small puja prayer porch with hand-hewn stone, fire pit, and water elements serves as an intimate spot to honor blessings and enjoy sweeping views.
The open-plan kitchen and living areas support lively conversation and the energy of visiting grandkids. Bedrooms constrained by the circle architecture emphasize bright neutral tones and a light ceiling finish to add volume.
The property’s Fairy Hill name reflects the mystical coastal forest and inspired a naturalistic and whimsical design approach. Mossy green interior colors create a gentle flow between inside and outside. Pops of purple and vibrant prints add touches of levity. A handmade chandelier uses original Shaker wheel rims to evoke a 1960s orbital groove.
As they contemplate retirement, this hardworking couple has created a uniquely special place that reflects who they are – and what they love.
